What is CSR and other related terms?

Corporate Social Responsibility is a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns into their business operations and can also support the charity sector by contributing to their charitable goals. CSR helps charities in ways such as fundraising, providing volunteers, marketing and communications, sharing expertise and facilities, and financial donations.

ESG (or Environmental, Social and Governance) is a holistic approach to CSR, which measures a business's impact on society and the environment and how transparent and accountable it is.

CSR, social value, and social impact are concepts that businesses can use to create positive environmental and social change.

What types of CSR are there?

Historically, Corporate Social Responsibility has been split into four categories:

Social value is a long-term commitment to giving back, and is measured by an organisation’s positive impact on society, a local community or within an environment. Businesses focus on short-term goals and provide benefits to the economic, social, and environmental impact of a charity or individual.

What is Social Impact?

Social impact is a long-term sustainable strategy that enables businesses to invest their time and resources in benefiting organisations, charities, individuals, or communities.
